What is home to you? What makes home to you? Does it have to be a house? I know. I know. A lot of questions. Here are my thoughts on this topic.
When I think of home, my thoughts are the following.
Home is a place where you can be yourself. It's a place where you find unconditional love. It's a place where you find your center, your comfort zone. It's a place where you can feel safe. This can be a place you live in by yourself or with others. Those you live in don't have to be actual family.
Home doesn't have to be a house. Plus, you can have multiple places you call home. For instance, you can live in a dorm and call both your dorm and the home your family lives in home.
An apartment might be home. It may have that cozy feel. It may be exactly what you need and love. It may have a pool with a nice community that has become your family.
A town home might be home. You may love having a small little yard with very little maintenance, leaving you time to do things you love with those you love.
Home should give you a warm feeling no matter what the shape or size. Home should be a place where you can dream, you can succeed, you can fail, you can try new things, you can stay the same, you can do what you want and still be loved and appreciated for being you. It's a place where you have support (yes, even if you live alone). It's a place where you long to be at the end of a long day.
Laughter makes my house a home. Humor has gotten us through some of the most frightening and stressful situations of our lives.
In our home, someone is almost always cooking something yummy. The smell of bacon is often one of my favorite smells of home.
We always have meals together in my home. We love to joke around while we eat and often there is a team effort with creation and cleanup of our meals.
Monday is always clean sheet day in our home. It's a favorite day, going to bed with the clean, crisp sheets and blankets.
An extension of our family, our cats also make our house a home. Their familiar routines. Their communication. Their funny play.
Our family room is the gathering place in our home. We will all gather here, every day. We may all be doing something different, but all still in the same space.
